What are the consequences of climate change on biodiversity and ecosystem services? What are potential responses to biodiversity loss, and are nature-based solutions a way forward? Biodiversity loss and climate change are closely linked but have been treated separately in science and policy for a long time. Today, we know that a warmer climate impacts wildlife and entire ecosystems, while biodiversity loss exacerbates the effects of climate change with severe consequences for human live on the planet. Well-designed nature-based solutions can benefit biodiversity, mitigate climate change and promote human well-being.
