Below are the side events in connection to the Swedish Climate Symposium 2026. You can choose from these as you sign up for the symposium.

Visualize your science – conference poster course

Date: 21 April (kick off) + 4 May (feedback),
Place: Online
Please observe that the dates are ahead of the symposium.

Turn your research into a clear and engaging poster that sparks meaningful conversations! In this online course with focus on poster presentation, you will learn everything you need to create a beautiful and credible scientific poster through our five modules on online video lectures:

• Introduction
• Poster content
• Basic Poster design
• Advanced poster design
• Finishing touches.

The event is a collaboration between the BECC & MERGE research school ClimBEco, ECR Bolin Centre. You can still join the course even if you are not a member of above, to the cost of 2015 SEK (incl. VAT)

Excursion to Hyltemossa (ICOS and ACTRIS site)

Date: 19 May 12.00-18.30,
Place: Hyltemossa (bus from Sölvegatan 12 (Geocentrum II)
Please observe the date is the day before the symposium starts

As part of the Swedish Climate Symposium, attendees can visit the Hyltemossa Research station. Excursion participants will get an opportunity to learn how greenhouse gases are measured, to tour the facilities, and to hear about the ongoing research. Hyltemossa is one of the major nodes of the climate-related Swedish research infrastructure and hosts ICOS ( Integrated Carbon Observation System), ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gas Research Infrastructure), and SITES (Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science).

Guided Tour of the European Spallation Source (ESS)

Date and time: 20 May 9.30-11.00,
Place: European Spallation Source

The European Spallation Source is under construction on the outskirts of Lund. The facility’s unique capabilities will both greatly exceed and complement those of today’s leading neutron sources, enabling new opportunities for researchers across the spectrum of scientific discovery, including materials and life sciences, energy, environmental technology, cultural heritage and fundamental physics.

9.15: Meet up by the Loop entrance (tram-side) for a joint walk to ESS
9.30: 90-minute visit including a talk and a tour of the facility.
Important : Wear trousers and flat shoes.

Excursion to the nature reserve Skrylle: Premiere of the Sound walk Skogens tid

Ljudvandringen Skogens tid leder dig som lyssnare till olika tider som finns i skogen. Tider som blir till och följs åt, samarbetar eller krockar. Olika tidsperspektiv formar vad skogen är och kan vara. Med nära erfarenheter, skogliga stunder och gröna visioner, utforskar ljudvandringen Skogens tid skogen nu och i framtiden.

Skogens tid är skapad av Lunds universitet och Umami produktion inom projektet Forest Visions, finansierat av Formas. Ljudvandringen arrangeras i samarbete med Naturum Skrylle och Lunds kommun.

Kom ihåg! Ta med egen mobiltelefon och hörlurar. Vi lyssnar till ljudvandringen utomhus vid naturum Skrylle, så kläder efter väder. Tillgänglighetsanpassning för rörelsehindrade finns.

Create Your Future – workshop

Date and time: 20 May 9.30-11.30
Place: The Loop (at the site for the symposium)

The aim of this workshop is to increase knowledge and awareness of climate change challenges and possible adaptation measures by visualising a future world where we have reached a more climate-adapted and sustainable society. Finding solutions from a broader perspective with people from different disciplines and sectors coming together to discuss and create.

It is a hands-on workshop where in groups you will create the image of your future climate-adapted society with images, pens, glue etc. There are different climate challenges to choose from and you will focus on a specific challenge.

Swedish Paleoclimatology Network meeting

Date and time: 20 May 10.30-11.30
Place: The Loop (at the site for the symposium)
Organisers: Frederik Schenk, Raimund Muscheler, Hans Linderholm and Jesper Sjolte

Paleoclimate research is becoming an integral part of mainstream climate science, a shift reflected in recent and forthcoming IPCC reports where dedicated paleoclimate chapters have disappeared. Yet many questions, methods, and challenges in our field remain uniquely ours. What roles should paleoclimate science play in the broader climate‑science landscape, and where can Swedish researchers make the strongest contributions? Join us for an open discussion on how our community can shape the evolving climate‑science agenda.

Icebreaker – discover Vattenhallen

Date and time: 20 May 18.00-20.00
Place: Vattenhallen
Vattenhallen is a science center at University of Lund and opened in 2009. During a normal year, about 45,000 visitors explores what the departments at the University and local businesses have contributed to showcase expertise, knowledge and experiments. For this evening Vattenhallen is only open for the Swedish Climate Symposium participants where you may roam around in the different exhibitions and experimental halls, there will be guides present to guide you.

• Artificial Intelligence – An exhibition on the future intelligence.
• Shoot Protons and Tickle Electrons – An insight into the research that is carried out (and will be carried out) at ESS and MAX IV.
• Planet Earth and the Climate Change – We explore our planet and take a closer look at what we can do for a more sustainable society.

Blue-green values in Kunskapsparken

Date and time: 21 May, 17:45 by the entrance to the Loop.
Place: Kunskapsparken (by the Loop)
Creating a dense and sustainable urban district requires a strong focus on blue-green infrastructure. In Kunskapsparken, these values have been integrated from the very beginning of the development of Brunnshög in Lund. Completed at an early stage, the park plays a vital role as both a green complement to the compact urban structure and a natural link between the city and the surrounding rural landscape.

At the heart of the park is a multifunctional pond that unites recreational value with stormwater management. The pond acts as a stormwater reservoir, regulating water flows, improving water quality, and supporting biodiversity – enhancing ecological functions while enriching the overall visitor experience.

Guided tour: Spring in the Botanical Garden of Lund

Date and time: 22 May 15.30-16.15,
Place: the Botanical Garden of Lund

Round off the symposium by joining a spring-themed walk through the beautiful Botanical Garden. Our guide will share fascinating insights about the plants and trees that make this season so special.

Meeting point Botaniska trädgården, Östra Vallgatan 20, 223 61 Lund. On the south lawn, near the entrance from Östervångsvägen.

Muralpainting

Date and time: 22 May 11.00-14.00
Place: the Botanical Garden of Lund
Participate in the creation of a mural painting, co-designed by citizens of Lund, researchers, and artists. The mural serves as a foundation for discussions about biodiversity and ecosystems, and how they respond to both global and local climate change. The artist duo Mångfaldens Mönster, who are both biologists and illustrators/traditional painters, will curate and lead the workshop and discussions
