SMHI, the Strategic Research Areas MERGE and BECC, and the Bolin Centre for Climate Research hosted the 2nd Swedish Climate Symposium on 15–17 May 2024 in Norrköping, Sweden.

A big thank you to all who attended the conference, presented their research, chaired sessions and who helped us make it a success!

Climate change strongly affects natural systems and humanity. Climate research plays a vital role in understanding climate processes and the future development of climate under natural and anthropogenic forcings. Governance bodies and society at large need to respond to the challenge of climate change, with implications for natural, social, economic and legal systems.

The 2nd Swedish Climate Symposium was an opportunity for scholars and practitioners to collectively reflect on and share contributions to climate science. It brought together scholars to identify knowledge gaps and opportunities for strengthened collaboration, and for further deepening the understanding of climate change; its physical basis, its impacts on nature and society, and the sustainable development and governance needed to mitigate and adapt to climate change. A wide spectrum of climate questions was discussed, within and across disciplines. For Swedish and international participants, the conference provides an overview of Swedish climate research and its quality.
