Time: Friday 22 May 10.30-12.00
Room: Planet
Session chairs: Stephan Barthel, University of Gävle and Norah Lång, Fairtrans
Session description
The session is organised by the research programme Fairtrans that produces actionable science, nationally and internationally, on how to achieve fair societal transformations in line with the Paris Agreement. The objectives of Fairtrans are to: i) provide transdisciplinary scientific knowledge on a fair climate transformation, ii) engage a broad range of actors to co-produce and inform transformative policies, and iii) establish lasting research and partner collaborations dedicated to a fair climate transformation.
Several of Fairtrans’ partner organisations within civil society have launched climate positions in recent years. This session will interrogate the tensions around different fairness dilemmas arising from climate transformation, not only viewed from an academic interest, but also as experienced by civil society organisations with substantial power to influence Swedish politics.
The session presents a theory of change based on an understanding of the relevance of including a discussion around how to include fairness in the climate transformation by combining high-quality science with learning from and collaborating with civil society organisations.
